2026 Mount Pisgah Arboretum Mushroom Festival

This installation is a celebration of female power, healing, creation, local community, and, of course, mushroom love!

Materials:

  • Reishi Mushrooms: (antlers) homegrown from local Cascadia Mushroom and North Spore cultures; (conk): specially harvested by Oregon Gourmet Mushrooms for this art installation

  • Pellicle (SCOBY): Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast— homegrown with Organic Brew Dr. Love Kombucha and Mountain Rose Herbs Organic Green Tea

  • Rye Grass Straw: homegrown from seed from Down to Earth, organically grown in our family allotment at the Whiteaker Community Gardens

  • Madrone Staff and Bark: sustainably harvested locally, with each tree given a nutrient-rich gift in gratitude

  • Ceramics: handmade and fired at by the artist at the local nonprofit studio Clay Space

Process:

  • The mushrooms were grown in my home using PNW cultures.

  • They were daily admired and sung to; imbued with goodwill for their future audience.

  • After the festival, all biodegradable materials will be composted for use in my family’s garden; remaining materials will be re-used for next year, hung as art, or donated.

Reishi:

  • factoid 1

  • factroid 2

Gratitude

My appreciation and love to the following supportive people who helped make this project a reality: my dear mother! for tending and harvesting the rye grass (and so very much more); my friends for donating materials & energy, and listening to my vision; the land; to Chris for the conk; to the Cascade Mycological Society for their welcome; to my brilliant and brave clients who inspire me endlessly, and to you, reader.

Fun Fact! Did you know that scarecrow…..

The inspiration for this scarecrow came during attendance at the 2025 festival. I was so impressed by what the community created and shared, that I wanted Whole Woman Psychotherapy to be a part of that sharing. My practice is centered around helping women find their power, learn to be at home in their bodies, and reclaim their energy. This sculpture is a tribute to all women laboring towards this empowerment.
